Law Dogs

“Melvin and his handler Ofc. Hottman have been an Idaho certified narcotic detection team since May of 2010. In 2009 Melvin was adopted from the P.A.W.S Animal Shelter in Emmett, ID. Soon after he was trained and certified in locating Marijuana, Heroin, Cocaine, and Methamphetamine. In 2010 Melvin participated in approximately 133 deployments as well as continuous training. Melvin can also found working with the High School, Boy Scout, and various other groups around Sandpoint.”

was adopted by Shine K-9 from MCPAWS on 9/9/08 and was placed with the Sandpoint Police Department in November of 2008. Harley is one of over 150 dogs trained by Gary and Rosemary Scheihing, including a bomb detection dog working at the Statue of Liberty.

In January 2012 Harley became Officer Michael Valenzuela’s partner and they formed a new K-9 team after completion of the Idaho P.O.S.T. K-9 Handlers in May of 2012.
